RESEARCH NEWS UPDATE
Jackie Obey, a lecturer of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, is the principal investigator of the research which won a grant of US$ 100,000 from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Her co-investigators are Dr. Fred Amimo (Dean, School of Science and Technology), Dr. Zachariah Ngalo Otieno-Ayayo (Chair, Department of Biological Sciences), Dr. Dickson Anjejo (Chair, Department of Public Health), and Mr. Samson Cheruiyot (Chair, Department of Nursing).

Jackie Obey of the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton in Kenya will test the efficacy of a diagnostic test for malaria in which small amounts of blood are mixed with an iron solution to create vibrant colors that indicate the amount of a protein released by the malaria parasite.
The UEAB academic community congratulates Jackie and her co-researchers on being selected to receive a grant for Round 3 of the Grand Challenges Explorations (GCE) initiative.
